New Apple Gadget Lets You Play Big PlayStation Hits Like Never Before: The Vision Pro Adventure

In an era where technology blurs the lines between the digital and the real, Apple has once again made waves with the release of its mixed-reality device, the Apple Vision Pro, on February 2, 2024. This cutting-edge device promises an immersive experience that integrates digital media seamlessly into our physical world.

Unlike its competitors, the Apple Vision Pro shuns traditional controllers for more intuitive physical inputs such as motion gestures, eye tracking, and speech recognition. But it’s a recent development that has caught the eye of the gaming community and tech enthusiasts alike.

Streaming PlayStation 5 Games on Apple Vision Pro: A Viral Sensation

A fascinating video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) by Dan Lowe, the Principal Tech Animator for Santa Monica Studio, showcased something previously unthinkable: playing the PlayStation 5 blockbuster, God of War: Ragnarok, on the Apple Vision Pro. This revelation has sparked a flurry of excitement and speculation about the future of gaming on Apple’s latest device.

Vision Pro: Gaming Revolutionized

“Can confirm, PS5 streaming is totally possible on Vision Pro using the MirrorPlay iPad app,”

Lowe tweeted, sharing his amazement at the capability to play high-caliber games like God of War: Ragnarok on the device. This experiment illuminated the potential of Apple Vision Pro as an incredible gaming display, albeit with some caveats.

Lowe noted that while the experience of resizing and positioning the screen to his preference was excellent, the frame rate and responsiveness didn’t quite match up to playing the game on a traditional TV setup, likely due to the wireless connection and the use of third-party software.

The Implications of Cross-Platform Play

This development raises an intriguing question: will Apple and Sony collaborate to officially bring the PlayStation 5 gaming experience to the Vision Pro? Given Sony’s investment in virtual reality through the PlayStation VR (PSVR), a partnership seems unlikely at first glance. Sony, a titan in both the gaming and tech industries, might view Apple’s foray into mixed-reality gaming as competition rather than a potential collaborative opportunity.

However, Apple’s track record of integrating AAA games onto its platforms, such as Resident Evil Village and Death Stranding on the iPhone 15 Pro lineup, suggests a different possibility. The tech giant has already shown it can work directly with game studios to bring their creations to Apple devices.

Even without an official partnership with Sony, Apple could leverage these relationships to enhance the Apple Vision Pro’s gaming library, potentially transforming the device into a formidable platform for premium gaming experiences.

A Nod from Gaming Royalty

Adding to the intrigue, Hideo Kojima, the legendary game designer behind Death Stranding, recently engaged with a post about the Apple Vision Pro. Known for his forward-thinking approach to technology and storytelling, Kojima’s interest in Apple’s mixed-reality device hints at the possibilities that lie ahead.

While Kojima typically focuses on film and cinematic content, his acknowledgment of the Apple Vision Pro suggests a recognition of its potential as a revolutionary gaming platform.

The Apple Vision Pro’s Gaming Horizon

The Apple Vision Pro stands at the threshold of a new gaming frontier, one where the lines between console and mixed-reality gaming begin to blur. As developers and tech visionaries like Dan Lowe and Hideo Kojima explore its capabilities, the potential for immersive, high-quality gaming experiences grows.

Whether or not official partnerships materialize, the Apple Vision Pro’s foray into gaming has already captured the imagination of the community, setting the stage for a future where gaming is not just seen or heard but truly lived.
