In a significant move that underscores the evolving landscape of employee benefits, AT&T has announced an expansion of its partnership with Maven Clinic, a leader in virtual care for women’s and family health. This collaboration marks a milestone in offering comprehensive fertility and family-building benefits, reflecting a deep commitment to the well-being and diverse needs of its workforce.

AT&T: A New Chapter in Employee Healthcare

Since 2021, AT&T has been at the forefront of supporting its employees through pivotal life stages, from postpartum recovery to the joys and challenges of early parenthood.

Partnering with Maven Clinic has enabled AT&T employees to access a wide range of support services, including virtual consultations with ob-gyns and lactation experts, and even facilitating the shipment of breast milk for traveling mothers.

The latest expansion, effective from January 1st, broadens the horizon for 125,000 employees, offering virtual guidance on reproductive services such as egg freezing, IVF, adoption, and surrogacy. This initiative builds on AT&T’s existing coverage of fertility treatments within its medical plans, which has been in place since 2018.

A Focus on Comprehensive Support

The collaboration between AT&T and Maven Clinic is not just about medical treatments; it’s about offering “wraparound support” for employees, ensuring they receive the emotional and practical support they need at various stages of their family-building journey.

“In expanding our partnership with Maven, we’re proud to offer employees personalized support—no matter where they are or what phase they’re in on their family-building journey,” said Stacey Marx, head of global benefits.

This approach reflects a growing recognition of the complex and varied needs of employees as they navigate the path to parenthood. By providing a supportive and flexible framework, AT&T aims to create an inclusive environment where every employee feels valued and supported.

The Broader Context: Fertility Benefits in the Workplace

While family-friendly policies like parental leave have become more common, fertility benefits remain relatively rare. According to Mercer’s latest employer benefits survey, a significant gap exists between the provision of paid family leave and fertility coverage outside health plans.

This discrepancy highlights the need for more comprehensive benefits that address the full spectrum of family-building needs.

Responding to this need, AT&T’s partnership with Maven Clinic represents a forward-thinking approach to employee benefits. By moving beyond traditional “point solutions” and offering a broad range of reproductive care services, AT&T is setting a new standard for corporate responsibility and employee support.

Looking Ahead: A Shift in Benefits Strategy

The expansion of fertility and family-building benefits comes at a time when employers are reevaluating their benefits strategies. With healthcare costs on the rise and the effectiveness of point solutions in question, companies are increasingly seeking comprehensive solutions that provide meaningful support to their employees.

This trend towards consolidating benefits vendors and focusing on high-impact, comprehensive solutions is a promising development. It signals a shift towards more holistic and inclusive approaches to employee well-being, with AT&T and Maven Clinic leading the way in redefining what it means to support employees in all aspects of their lives.

AT&T’s enhanced partnership with Maven Clinic is more than just an expansion of benefits—it’s a testament to the company’s commitment to its employees’ health and happiness. As other corporations observe and learn from AT&T’s example, we may see a new era of employee benefits that truly cater to the diverse needs of the modern workforce.
