Honda Issues Major Recall for 187,000 Ridgeline Trucks Over Backup Camera Flaw

In a significant move aimed at ensuring driver safety and maintaining trust, Honda has announced a comprehensive recall of approximately 187,000 Ridgeline pickup trucks. This recall spans models produced from 2020 through 2024 and addresses a critical issue with the vehicles’ backup cameras, which are failing to display images. The root of the problem has been traced back to a defective wire harness in the tailgate that is prone to damage from water ingress and road salt.

Technical Breakdown of the Issue

The malfunctioning wire harness, which is essential for the functioning of the backup camera, is especially susceptible to damage during the frequent opening and closing of the tailgate. This defect interrupts the camera’s ability to communicate with the dashboard display, posing a significant risk to safety by reducing driver visibility during reverse maneuvers.

Proactive Steps by Honda

To rectify this issue, authorized Honda stores will replace the faulty wiring harness with an upgraded model that’s designed to withstand the conditions that led to the malfunction. Importantly, this repair will be conducted at no cost to Ridgeline owners, underscoring Honda’s commitment to customer safety and satisfaction.

Previous Precedents and Safety Measures

This is not the first time Honda has initiated a recall for the Ridgeline models over similar concerns. Despite the recurring nature of this issue, it’s noteworthy that there have been no accidents or injuries reported in connection with the malfunction, as per the data submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Recall Logistics and Owner Communication

The specific batch of vehicles affected includes those manufactured between November 8, 2019, and April 24, 2024. Ridgeline owners are encouraged to contact Honda directly at 888-234-2138 for arranging the necessary repairs or to seek further information. The recall campaign, internally coded as YI7 by Honda, is also registered with the NHTSA under campaign number 24V321.

Ensuring Vehicle Safety

For owners wishing to verify the status of their vehicle, Company recommends visiting the NHTSA website where the vehicle’s 17-digit identification number (VIN) can be entered. This check will reveal if the vehicle is affected by this recall or any other. Honda advises all vehicle owners to regularly check for updates regarding the safety of their vehicle, as recalls can occur frequently and may affect older models as well.

Honda’s proactive approach in this situation illustrates their dedication to upholding high safety standards and supporting their customer base.
