According to recent announcements from Salem, Oregon, an error discovered within the TurboTax software, developed by Intuit, may have caused numerous taxpayers to overpay on their state taxes for the year 2023.

This software glitch, affecting both federal and state tax filings processed through TurboTax, has sparked both concern and an opportunity for potential refunds. “Intuit has contacted the affected taxpayers and provided instructions for filing an amended return at no charge,” stated a representative from the Oregon Department of Revenue.

This proactive approach by Intuit aims to rectify the error promptly, ensuring that taxpayers can adjust their filings to accurately reflect their tax liabilities.

TurboTax: How to Claim Your Adjusted Refund?

For those impacted by this software mishap, the process to claim your rightful refund is straightforward but requires attention to detail. Taxpayers must revisit their TurboTax application to complete an amended return. Once completed, the return should be printed out for submission.

There are three methods available for submitting the corrected documentation:

  • Mail: Taxpayers can send their printed amended returns to the Oregon Department of Revenue at the address: P.O. Box 14700, Salem, OR, 97309-0930.
  • In-Person: For those who prefer a more direct approach, bringing the amended return to any of the Department of Revenue offices is an option.
  • Online Submission: Alternatively, Oregonians can enter the data from their printed return into Direct File Oregon to electronically file their amended return.
