Mt. Capra has Recalled Over 1500 Boxes of Goat Milk Recipe Kit and Urges an Immediate Stop

In a significant health alert, Healthwest Minerals Inc, operating under the brand name Mt. Capra Products, has announced a crucial recall of its Goat Milk Formula Recipe Kit. The Chehalis-based company has urgently advised consumers to cease using this product as baby formula following concerns raised by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Critical Nutritional Deficiencies Highlighted by FDA

The takeback, affecting over 1,500 boxes, was initiated after the FDA pointed out that the goat milk-based formula fails to meet the comprehensive nutritional requirements essential for infant formulas. Specifically, the product lacks adequate iron content, posing a serious risk of iron deficiency anemia in infants, a condition that can lead to severe developmental issues if left unaddressed.

“The FDA is concerned that the formula does not meet all FDA requirements for infant formula, does not provide sufficient nutrition when used as an infant formula, and the storage instructions may be insufficient for the product,” the FDA’s announcement emphasized. This recall underscores the potential dangers of inadequate infant nutrition, highlighting the importance of stringent quality checks and regulatory compliance in baby food products.

Implications for Infants and Parents

The affected Goat Milk Formula Recipe Kits were sold both at the Mt. Capra store in Chehalis and through the company’s website from May 1, 2023, to May 1, 2024. The company has released a list of specific lot codes involved in the recall, which consumers are urged to check.

Infants who have consumed the recalled product may face risks such as feeding intolerance and the aforementioned iron deficiency anemia. “Infants consuming the recalled product without additional iron supplementation can develop iron deficiency anemia and feeding intolerance,” warned the health advisory.

Company and FDA Recommendations

Following the recall notice, Mt. Capra has strongly advised against the use of this product for infants under 12 months of age. Parents who have used this formula are recommended to consult healthcare providers to evaluate their child’s nutritional health and to check for any deficiencies.

“The safety of our customers and products is Mt. Capra’s primary concern,” stated the company, highlighting their commitment to consumer health and product integrity.

Larger Context of Recent Recalls

This incident is part of a broader wave of product recalls this May, which includes items like dietary supplements, nuts, and cream cheese, reflecting ongoing issues in product safety across various categories. These recalls serve as a crucial reminder of the vigilance needed in production and quality assurance processes to ensure consumer safety.
