Breaking News: Nearly 2 Million FIJI Water Bottles Pulled Off Shelves Due to Health Concerns

The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently initiated a massive recall of approximately 1.9 million bottles of FIJI Water, a staple in many American households. This significant action, taken in March but only publicly disclosed in late May, comes after the discovery of potentially harmful contaminants including manganese and various bacteria in the water.

Details of the Contaminated Products

This recall specifically targets 78,533 cases of FIJI Natural Artesian Water. These 500 ml bottles, typically sold in packs of 24, were primarily distributed in Washington but are also available for purchase online across the nation. The affected products have specific identifiers, with case UPCs marked as 6 32565 00004 3 and bottle UPCs at 6 32565 00001 2. The production dates for these bottles are from November 11 to 13 and November 24 to 25, 2023.

Understanding the Risks: Manganese and Bacteria Exposure

The presence of manganese, a naturally occurring mineral, along with three different species of bacteria, was detected through rigorous testing by the FDA. While manganese is essential in small amounts for human health, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency warns that chronic exposure can lead to complications including memory problems, attention deficits, and impaired motor skills. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also highlighted the risk of long-term ingestion, which can cause neurological issues and reproductive harm.

The brand has emphasized the importance of customer safety, although they have yet to issue an official press release detailing further actions or instructions regarding the recall.

This line is open for claims within 60 days of purchase, where customers can either obtain a refund or replace their purchase at no additional cost.
