AT&T Steps Up Free Security Tools Offered After Huge Data Leak Hits Millions

In a robust response to a massive data breach that compromised the personal details of millions, AT&T has rolled out enhanced security measures to reassure and protect its customers. This initiative comes after the sensitive information of approximately 70 million individuals was exposed on the dark web, marking one of the most significant data security incidents in recent times.

A Close Look at the Breach and Its Impact

The breach affected 7.6 million current AT&T customers and 65.4 million former customers. It was reported by USA TODAY that the compromised data might have included personal details such as Social Security numbers from the Telecom brand data-specific fields dating back to 2019 or earlier.

Fortunately, it did not involve personal financial information or call history.

AT&T has been investigating the origin of the data exposure, which could have come from either the company itself or one of its vendors. In the wake of this uncertainty, the telecommunications giant took immediate action to safeguard affected customers.

AT&T’s Proactive Security Enhancements

Understanding the gravity of the breach, the telecom giant did not hesitate to secure its customers’ data further.

“Several AT&T passcodes were compromised,” leading the company to reset these passcodes as a preventive measure. Furthermore, the telecom giant has contacted all impacted current customers directly to address this serious issue.

Additionally, the company has unveiled a suite of complimentary security services. According to KPRC-TV, these include one year of free credit monitoring, identity theft detection, and resolution services.

What’s more, the offer is bolstered by an insurance policy providing up to $1 million in coverage in the event of identity theft, along with access to an identity restoration team.
