Wear OS 5: Smart Management of Background Tasks
In addition to the updates to Android’s operating system, Google’s wearables are also seeing enhancements with the introduction of Wear OS 5. Although based on Android 14, Wear OS 5 will consume 20% less battery power during activities like tracking outdoor marathons, thanks to smarter management of background tasks.
Sameer Samat, President of the Android Ecosystem, explained that most background activity for Wear OS would occur while the smartwatch is charging, rather than when on the user’s wrist. This approach not only improves battery life but also enhances the overall user experience by ensuring the watch performs optimally when needed most.
