How a Queensland Schoolteacher Landed a $100 Per Hour Job as Domino's Hand Model

In an unorthodox twist to the typical job listing, Domino’s Pizza turned heads worldwide with its hunt for the perfect pair of hands. The search concluded recently with the selection of Matt Strain, a Queensland schoolteacher, who now holds the title of Domino’s hand model, earning an impressive $100 per hour.

Domino’s launched the unusual recruitment drive in May, seeking someone with at least “18 years of pizza holding experience” and hands “so clean and soft you could butter garlic bread with them.” The specifications also required the ability to “lift a maximum of four pizza slices per hand.”

Hundreds Competed, But One Stood Out

After evaluating hundreds of creative and quirky video submissions from hopefuls demonstrating their hand modeling potential—and occasionally their feet!—Matt Strain emerged victorious. Speaking to 9 News Queensland, Strain humorously remarked that his hands are “unblemished by hard work,” highlighting his suitability for the role where the toughest challenge, according to him, is “the standing actually.”

From Classroom to Photo Studio: A New Role for a Schoolteacher

Matt Strain isn’t just taking on any gig. This role comes with its perks, including a day at Domino’s Global Headquarters in Brisbane. Here, Strain will model for the upcoming advertising campaign featuring the next range of Domino’s menu innovations.
Matthew Baldwin, Domino’s ANZ people business partner, reflected on the search: “We had people doing shadow puppets … (even) a couple of sneaky feet coming into the pictures.” The light-hearted nature of the campaign not only inspired creativity but also showcased the fun culture of the company.

A Peek into Domino’s Secret Kitchen

The job doesn’t end with hand modeling. Strain will also explore the inner workings of Domino’s, including a tour of their Innovation Kitchen and the ‘Say Cheese’ professional photo studio. Plus, a pizza lunch awaits to thank him for his ‘hand work.’ But, the excitement comes with a caveat—a pinky promise (or a formal NDA) to keep the upcoming menu items under wraps.
