General Motors Issues Major Recall for 2024 Chevrolet Colorado Trucks Due to Tire Label and TPMS Issue

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently announced crucial recall notices that impact several commercial vehicle brands including General Motors and Rivian. This announcement is particularly significant for fleet managers and independent vehicle owners who rely on these vehicles for business operations.

General Motors and Chevrolet Colorado: Tire and TPMS Issues

A critical recall has been issued for certain 2024 Chevrolet Colorado trucks due to discrepancies between the tire label and the tires actually installed. This mismatch could lead to the use of incorrectly sized tires, significantly increasing the risk of accidents. Furthermore, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) might fail to alert drivers of changes in tire pressure, posing additional safety risks. According to the NHTSA, “A tire label that does not accurately reflect the installed tires may result in the installation of incorrectly sized tires. In addition, the TPMS may not warn the driver of a drop in tire pressure. Both of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.”

This recall affects approximately 56 vehicles. General Motors plans to rectify this issue by inspecting and, if necessary, replacing the tires. Notification letters to vehicle owners are scheduled to be dispatched by July 8. Owners can also reach out to Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020 for more information, referencing GM’s recall number N242444030.

Rivian’s Headlight Alignment Concerns

Another significant recall involves Rivian’s 2023-2024 EDV and R1T models, where the headlights may be improperly aligned, potentially compromising road illumination. This defect could decrease the driver’s visibility, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. Rivian has identified that these vehicles do not meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, which pertains to “Lamp, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.” Rivian plans to inspect and adjust the headlight alignment as necessary for the 2,334 vehicles affected. Rivian’s customer service can be contacted at 888-748-4264 with recall reference number FSAM-1445. Notification letters are expected to be sent out by July 6.

Staying informed and proactive about these updates is essential for maintaining road safety and compliance with national safety standards.
