Samsung Offers Free Screen Fixes for Galaxy Phones with Green Line Glitch in India

In a move that underscores its commitment to customer satisfaction, Samsung Galaxy has begun addressing a persistent screen issue that has plagued certain models of its smartphones. Last week, the issue gained significant attention as Galaxy owners reported a green line marring their device screens. According to reports, this line was not just a minor inconvenience but a major distraction for users.

Industry insider Tarun Vats revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that after discussions with an official Samsung support channel on WhatsApp, Samsung confirmed their willingness to replace affected screens.

In a surprising twist, the tech giant will also replace the batteries of the impacted devices, even if the warranty has expired. However, there are specific conditions that users need to meet to qualify for this repair offer.

Eligibility Criteria for Free Screen Replacement

Samsung Galaxy has specified that only certain models are eligible for this complimentary service. The models included are:

  • Most of the Galaxy S20 series, excluding the S20 FE
  • Most of the S21 series, excluding the S21 FE
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra
  • Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra

Interestingly, models like the Galaxy Z Flip 3, which were also reported to face similar issues, do not fall under this support offer.

Furthermore, the smartphones must have been purchased within the last three years, should be free from any physical or water damage, and the owner must reside in India. This special repair offer is timely as it is valid until April 30, making it crucial for users to act quickly.

Samsung Galaxy: The Persistent Green Line Problem

This isn’t the first time Samsung has dealt with the green line problem in India. Back in July 2023, the same support team addressed similar screen discolorations, including green, pink, and purple lines.

The recurrence of this problem suggests that there might be an underlying issue with the screen materials or manufacturing processes, which were speculated to have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leading publications like Forbes have noted that this issue isn’t unique to Samsung, with other manufacturers and even Apple users reporting similar problems in devices released around 2020 and 2021.

Is a Global Solution on the Horizon?

As of now, Samsung has not indicated any plans to expand this repair program outside of India, despite similar issues being reported globally.

The limitation of the repair program to India, where the problem seems more prevalent, might be strategic, but it leaves many international Galaxy users wondering if and when they will receive support.

Samsung’s proactive approach in India is commendable, but the geographic restriction and the looming deadline make it essential for affected users to seek repairs promptly. As we continue to monitor this situation, we encourage Galaxy owners to stay tuned for any updates or expansions of the support program.
