Breaking News Over 100,000 Mercedes SUVs Recalled Due to Fire Risk – Check If Yours Is on the List

In a significant development that has caught the attention of SUV owners and car enthusiasts alike, Mercedes-Benz has initiated a recall of 116,000 SUVs across its luxury lineup, citing an electrical issue that poses a fire hazard. The recall encompasses a broad range of models, including those under the Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach banners, signaling the seriousness with which the luxury automaker is addressing the potential safety risk.

The Heart of the Matter: Electrical Concerns Under the Spotlight

Central to the recall is a problem identified with the 48-volt ground connection located under the passenger seat. Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveal that this connection may become loose, leading to overheating and, in the worst-case scenario, a fire.

This issue affects a wide spectrum of models, including the Mercedes-Benz GLE350, GLE450, GLE580; GLS450 and GLS580; Mercedes-AMG GLE53 SUV and coupe, GLE63S; the Mercedes-AMG GLS63; and the Maybach GLS600, spanning model years from 2019 to 2024.

The recall documents highlight that the flawed ground connection might not give early warnings to drivers unless it has already come loose, at which point a vehicle may display a warning message in the instrument cluster regarding the 48-volt power supply. This lack of early detection underscores the urgency of the recall and the need for vehicle owners to act promptly.

Mercedes: Proactive Measures and Owner Notification

In response to the discovery of this fault, the German luxury Automobile brand has pledged to inspect and, if necessary, tighten the ground connections of affected vehicles at no cost to owners.

This recall action is set to commence with dealer notifications starting on March 22, followed by the dispatch of owner notification letters by May 14. In the interim, vehicle owners are encouraged to visit the NHTSA recalls website to ascertain if their SUV is implicated in the recall.
